The Eaton DS402 is a heavy-duty, tandem-drive rear axle differential widely used in commercial semi-trucks and freight vehicles. It serves as the primary component in the rear axles, transferring engine power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds during turns. In a tandem-axle truck (a “6-wheeler”), the DS402 is generally used as the forward-rear differential. It receives drive power directly from the transmission and splits it, sending some power to its own axle and the rest through a driveshaft to the rear-rear axle.
