The Spicer 1241 (originally manufactured by Dana Spicer, Transmission Technologies Corporation, and later Tremec) is a heavy-duty 4-speed auxiliary transmission widely referred to as a “Brownie box”. It is engineered to mount directly behind a truck’s main transmission in severe-duty, vocational, and heavy-haul commercial vehicle applications to provide additional gear choices.

Key Engineering Features

  • Dual Counter shaft Design: Splitting the engine torque equally between two opposing counter shafts allows for higher torque capacity in a significantly narrower, lighter case frame.

  • Gear Architecture: Uses robust, constant-mesh spur gear teeth, shifting manually with a mechanical shift lever or an integrated air shift system.

  • Power Tower Compatibility: It is commonly fitted with a top-mounted auxiliary “power tower” or power take-off (PTO) unit to drive specialized body equipment.

We have 2 with power towers, 1 with out power tower and 1 air shift auxiliary.
